FAQ
Questions about
volume.
How is the volume worked out?
Volume in litres is your weight in kilograms multiplied by a factor for your ability: 0.60 to 0.70 for a beginner, down to 0.34 to 0.38 for a professional. Fitness, wave size and wave power nudge the range by a few percent each, never more than 10% in total.
Is this the volume I should order?
It is the range most shapers would start the conversation from. Your shaper will move it for the board type, your paddling, the waves you ride most and what you are used to. A fish carries more volume than a shortboard for the same surfer.
Why a range and not one number?
Two surfers of the same weight and ability can want a litre or two apart depending on how they surf. The low end suits a lively board in good waves; the high end suits weaker waves, less time in the water or a board you paddle a lot.
Where does this come from?
The same calculation Surfbase runs on a customer’s profile, so a shaper using Surfbase sees the same range beside the boards they have made you.
